



Professor Dr Md Abdul Baset Mia of Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has been elected President of the Bangladesh Society of Plant Science and Technology (BSPST) for the 2026-2028 term.
The announcement was made following the completion of the organization’s third executive committee election process. The newly formed committee officially assumed office on June 3, 2026.
Professor Dr Md Alamgir Hossain of Bangladesh Agricultural University was elected General Secretary.
Other office bearers of the committee include Vice-Presidents Professor Dr Sripati Sikdar and Professor Dr Md Sazzadur Rahman; Joint General Secretaries Professor Dr Md Mahbub Islam and Professor Dr Md Masudur Rahman; Treasurer Professor Dr Md Nchor Uddin; Publication Secretary Professor Dr Kamrun Nahar; Joint Publication Secretary Professor Dr Debesh Das; and Seminar and Cultural Secretary Professor Dr Md Sabiul Haque.
The executive members of the committee are Professor Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Professor Dr Md Habibur Rahman Pramanik, Professor Dr Md Moniruzzaman Bahadur, Professor Dr Md Abdul Kaiyum, Dr Mosammat Salma Parvin, Md Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Meera Rani Das, Haidar Iqbal Khan, Dr Md Shariful Islam, Dr Babul Akter and Dr A.F.M. Shamim Ahsan.
Reacting to his election, Dr Abdul Baset Mia said plant science plays a crucial role in ensuring food security, agricultural sustainability and national development.
“Plant science is not merely an academic discipline; it is a foundation for food security and future development. We will work together to strengthen BSPST as an effective platform for research, innovation and professional excellence,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of nurturing young scientists and ensuring that research findings reach the field level.
