Lions District distributes food relief in Sylhet
Essential food items were distributed to impoverished and vulnerable families affected by the recent floods in Sylhet by Lions District 315B-1.
The relief assistance reached around 1,500 families across various unions in Golapganj and Beanibazar upazilas of Sylhet, funded by the Lions Clubs International Foundation on Wednesday.
The formal distribution activities took place on Wednesday morning in Sharifganj Union of Golapganj Upazila and in the afternoon in Mathiura Union of Beanibazar Upazila. Each flood-affected family received a package containing essential food items such as rice, lentils, salt, onions, cooking oil, potatoes and flattened or puffed rice.
Lion Dr Khandakar Mazharul Anwar Shahjahan (MJF), District Governor of District 315B-1, attended the event as the chief guest.
First Vice District Governor Lion Rafiqul Bari Mukta; Cabinet Treasurer Maksudah Mahmud Mila; October Service Committee Chairman Lion Habibur Rahman; Relief Committee Advisors Lion Harun-Al-Rashid Dipu (MJF) and Lion Belal Ahmed; Relief Committee Chairman Lion Engr Mohammad Abu Taher; Co-Chairman Lion Amin Uddin Ahmed; and members, including Lions Shamsul Alam Khan Saju, Gautam Lal Datta, Masum Ahmed, Mahbub Sohel, Advocate Gongesh Das, Sajwan Ahmed, Abdullah Al Mamun Samon and Kazi Abdul Mukit, among others, also attended the programme.
The organisers stated that this humanitarian assistance initiative by Lions Club District 315B-1 would continue to alleviate the suffering of flood-affected people.
Previously, similar relief distribution activities were conducted in flood-hit areas of Habiganj and Sunamganj districts last Tuesday.
