Demanding Fertiliser Disgruntled farmers block road

Hundreds of disgruntled farmers have blocked a road in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram district protesting against the lack of fertiliser.

They blocked the road on Friday by throwing tree trunks on the road in protest over the lack of fertiliser. This stopped the movement of vehicles on the road for about 5 hours.

Later, the local administration and police came and brought the situation under control.

The incident took place from Friday morning to noon. The blockade took place in front of BCIC dealer Messrs. Bhai Bhai Traders in Gabtala Bazar area of Ballabherkhas union of the upazila.

The aggrieved farmers blocked the road by throwing tree trunks on the road, causing a traffic jam. On the other hand, the aggrieved farmers blocked the Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer (Block Supervisor) of Ballabherkhas Union Block, Rafiqul Islam.

At the same time, they demanded that the fertiliser crisis be resolved and the removal of the agriculture officer and the concerned fertiliser dealer.

Subsequently, after a long time, the police, with the help of the Nageshwari Upazila Nirbahi Officer, rescued the blocked agriculture officer from the spot and took him to the Kachakata police station.

He came to the spot, talked to the farmers and assured them of resolving the fertiliser crisis. Finally, when the farmers lifted their blockade, traffic on the road returned to normal.

Nageswari Upazila Nibahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Alauddin said that although the farmers were upset, they were calmed down by going to the spot and distributing fertiliser.
