‘City problems need citizens’ coop to resolve’

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam on Sunday said urban problems could not be resolved through government and administrative efforts alone, urging city dwellers to play their part in addressing civic issues in their respective areas.

“Just as the government and administration will work to resolve local problems, citizens must also fulfil their responsibilities. Public cooperation is needed to prevent encroachment and pollution of canals and drains, stop indiscriminate dumping of waste, prevent drug abuse and maintain cleanliness,” he said.
He made the remarks as the chief guest while inaugurating a tree plantation programme along the bank of the Japanese Bazar Zia Sarani Canal in Ward No 60 under Kadamtali Police Station.

A discussion on drug eradication, improvement of the water drainage system, repair and development of roads and drains and various civic issues was also held on the occasion.

Abdus Salam said the government was considering a Tk130 crore project to address various infrastructural problems in Wards 58, 59, 60 and 61, among the 18 wards recently incorporated into the DSCC.
