‘Full independence, autonomy of judiciary essential’
The Bangladesh Judicial Service Association has called for ensuring the full independence and autonomy of the judiciary, along with professional facilities and security for judges, is essential to establishing an efficient judicial system.
The association also reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the backlog of cases and delivering justice to people’s doorsteps in the shortest possible time.
The association expressed its views in a joint statement issued on Sunday marking the Judiciary Separation Day. The statement was signed by Bangladesh Judicial Service Association President Mohammad Ali Hossain and Secretary General Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman.
According to the statement, the judiciary was fully separated from the executive branch in line with the landmark verdict in the historic Masdar Hossain case on November 1, 2007, ushering in a new era.
An independent, impartial and accountable judiciary is one of the key pillars of a democratic state. The role of an independent judiciary is indispensable in establishing the rule of law, protecting fundamental human rights and ensuring social justice, it said.
The statement further said that despite various limitations and challenges since the separation of the judiciary, judges have continued to discharge their duties with honesty, dedication and sincerity to ensure people’s right to justice.
It also called upon all concerned to extend sincere cooperation and play a positive role in the overall development of the judiciary and strengthening its institutional capacity.
The association expressed hope that collective efforts would help build a discrimination-free, justice-based society governed by the rule of law in Bangladesh.
On the occasion, the association extended its warm greetings and congratulations to judges at all levels, court officials and employees, lawyers and ordinary litigants across the country.
