‘BNP wants to govern with people’s mandate’

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said the BNP wants to govern with the votes and mandate of the people, ruling out any attempt to assume power through elections without voters’ support.
“We do not dream of assuming power through elections without votes or in the dead of night,” he said.
He made the remarks while attending a daylong dengue prevention and primary healthcare camp as the chief guest at Adarsha High School ground in Mirpur-10 on Saturday morning, according to a press release from the ministry.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) organised the camp to raise awareness about dengue prevention and provide medical services to city residents.
State Minister for Health Dr M A Muhith attended the programme as a special guest.
Mir Shahe Alam said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was giving the highest priority to public welfare and people’s satisfaction.
Referring to administrative action taken against ministers and members of parliament over the past seven months, he described the measures as evidence of the government’s transparency and accountability.
