Tuku honours 850 GPA-5 achievers in Tangail

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has urged students to take responsibility for building a drug- and terrorism-free society, saying the future generation will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and peaceful Bangladesh.

He made the remarks while addressing a reception for meritorious students as the chief guest at Bindubashini Government Boys’ High School in Tangail town today.

The reception was organised on the initiative of the state minister to honour students who secured GPA-5 in the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations.

Urging the students to stay away from drugs, terrorism and teenage gangs, Tuku said drug abuse had emerged as one of the major challenges facing society.

“Students must remain alert and aware to help build a peaceful and safe society,” he said.

Tuku said the previous government had taken the country’s education system to the verge of destruction, while the present government was working to restore dynamism to the sector.

He urged the students to dream big but said good academic results alone were not enough for success.
“Students must develop themselves as capable citizens by combining knowledge and skills with human values and patriotism,” he said.

The state minister said the meritorious students being honoured would lead the country and society in the future.

He said the reception had been organised this year, as in the previous year, to recognise GPA-5 achievers and that the initiative would continue in the future.

Such recognition would encourage other students to work towards achieving success, he added.
Tuku also urged every student to remain focused and work hard to fulfil their dreams.

At the programme, he handed over crests, mementos and educational materials to 850 GPA-5 achievers from Tangail.

District Superintendent of Police Md Shamsul Alam Sarker, Additional Superintendent of Police HM Mahbub Rizu-an Siddiqui, officials from different government departments, teachers, guardians and media personnel attended the programme.
