Govt vows to clear all hurdles to good governance: Law Minister
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman has said the government will remove any obstacles standing in the way of good governance.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views with local stakeholders at the Khulna Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Monday.
The minister said the government had taken a number of welfare-oriented initiatives after assuming office, including introducing farmer cards and family cards and waiving agricultural loans.
It has also introduced allowances for imams, muezzins and Hindu priests, he said, adding that the government believes in serving the people.
“The government needs time to resolve the problems created by the previous fascist regime,” Asaduzzaman said.
He said the government was working to formulate legislation on cyber protection and online security after consulting relevant stakeholders.
“The enforcement of laws against drugs and gambling will now be strengthened,” he added.
The minister also urged all concerned to engage in constructive criticism of the government without creating unnecessary controversy.
Bangladesh Parliament Whip Rakibul Islam, Khulna-4 MP SK Azizul Bari Helal, Khulna-1 MP Amir Ejaz Khan, Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Sazzadur Rahman, Range DIG Md Mostafizur Rahman, Police Superintendent Sarker Omar Faruk, Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, Khulna Development Authority Chairman SM Shafiqul Alam and Khulna WASA Chairman Mohammad Moniruzzaman, among others, spoke at the meeting.
District Commissioner Hure Jannat moderated the event.
Heads of various government offices, principals of government colleges, lawyers, leaders of different political parties, civil society representatives and journalists attended the meeting.
