Anwari Kabir’s 5th death anniv today

Today is the fifth death anniversary of eminent educationist and social worker Anwari Kabir.

Anwari died on August 29, 2021, at the age of 94. She was the wife of late Khairul Kabir, founder editor of Dainik Sangbad, founder of the Press Club and first chairman and managing director of Janata Bank.

Born in Calcutta, British India, Anwari studied at Loreto Convent and Lady Brabourne College before earning a master’s degree in education from London University. She founded Little Jewels School, an English-medium institution, in 1955.

Anwari served as general secretary of the then East Pakistan Women’s Association, now Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, and All-Pakistan Women’s Association. She introduced Zonta International Club in Pakistan and later became its South Asia and Pacific governor and an international board member.

Her family will hold a doa mahfil and distribute food among poor people at their ancestral home in Ghorashal today.
