



A gardener employed at Dhaka University died on Tuesday after falling from a jackfruit tree while collecting fruit at Ruqayyah Hall, highlighting the risks associated with routine maintenance work on campus.
The deceased was identified as Chhiakul, 39, son of Royjul, hailing from Naragati in Narail district. He worked as a gardener at Ruqayyah Hall. According to witnesses, Chhiakul climbed a jackfruit tree in the morning to harvest jackfruits. During the process, a jackfruit reportedly struck him on the head, causing him to lose balance and fall from the tree.
He sustained serious injuries in the fall and was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
However, despite medical efforts, he died from his injuries at around 11:30am, said Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at the hospital. The incident occurred within the premises of Ruqayyah Hall, where Chhiakul had been carrying out his regular duties as part of the hall’s gardening and maintenance work.
