Two unlicensed brick kilns fined Tk 3 lakh in Pirojpur

A mobile court has fined two brick kilns Tk 3 lakh in Pirojpur Sadar for illegally using firewood and operating without a license.

At the same time, the kiln fire was extinguished with the help of the Fire Service.

The day-long drive was conducted on Sunday (April 12) at the initiative of the district administration in the Hularhat area of Sadar Upazila.

The mobile court was conducted by Executive Magistrates Nahid Al Asif and Fardin Monir Arnab of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

According to mobile court sources, ‘Rahi Bricks’ located in the area was illegally using firewood instead of coal for brick burning.

The company was fined Tk 2 lakh for this offence.

Later, a special team of the Fire Service extinguished the kiln fire and stopped its operations.

‘Abi Bricks’ was fined Tk 1 lakh for setting up and operating a brick kiln without the necessary license and clearance from the Department of Environment.

Action was taken against the company under the relevant section of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013.

Pirojpur Department of Environment Deputy Director Nikhil Biswas, along with a special team of the Fire Service and police, were present at the time.

The executive magistrates of the mobile court said a zero-tolerance policy is being followed against illegal brick kilns to protect the environment.

They added that strict action will be taken against those operating brick kilns in violation of the law, and such drives will continue regularly.
