DEMU trains left to decay

Several Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) trains imported by Bangladesh Railway from China now lie in a dilapidated condition at the Kamalapur Railway Shed area, with their valuable machinery deteriorating under the open sky.

Bangladesh Railway imported 20 DEMU trains from China to provide improved passenger services on short-distance routes. The trains were brought in as part of efforts to strengthen passenger services on such routes.

The trains now remain in a poor condition at the railway shed. Exposed to the open sky, the valuable machinery and other parts of the trains continue to deteriorate.

The condition of the trains presents a stark contrast to the purpose for which they were imported. Instead of providing improved services to passengers on short-distance routes, the trains now remain unused in a dilapidated state.

Instead, the trains now remain in a neglected condition at the railway shed. Their valuable machinery and other components are being exposed to weather conditions as the trains remain under the open sky.

The deteriorating condition of the trains highlights the fate of railway assets imported for improving passenger services. With the trains lying in poor condition, their valuable machinery is also at risk of further deterioration.
