BD urges India to prevent from destabilising country: Mahdi
Bangladesh has urged India to ensure that fugitive allies of fascism and convicted criminals staying in the country cannot make any attempt to create instability in Bangladesh, Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office Mahdi Amin said on Thursday.
He made the call when Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on him at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka in the morning. Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe was present at the meeting.
The meeting came as Bangladesh and India discussed ways to improve bilateral relations, strengthen people-to-people contacts and address existing challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
Amin’s remarks placed the issue of fugitives and convicted criminals in India at the centre of discussions on Bangladesh’s security and democratic environment.
The meeting also emphasised the need to strengthen the democratic environment and democratic values in both countries. Both sides agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a sustainable and dignified level based on mutual respect, equality, fairness and justice.
They held constructive discussions on resolving existing issues and challenges through mutual dialogue and cooperation.
The two sides also explored ways to expand cooperation across a range of sectors, including education, health, sports, culture and tourism. Business, trade and investment were also discussed as areas with potential for further engagement. Highlighting the potential of information technology and innovation, the meeting placed emphasis on strengthening cooperation in science and technology.
In a Facebook post, the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh said the meeting highlighted the enduring bonds between Bangladesh and India, rooted in strong people-to-people ties.
“They discussed the importance of further deepening the bilateral partnership for the mutual benefit and prosperity of the peoples of the two sovereign nations. With particular emphasis in education, technology and innovation,” it added.
The meeting underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing bilateral issues while pursuing stronger ties between the two neighbouring countries.
