2 more children die with measles symptoms in Barishal

Two children have died while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barishal in the last 24 hours with measles symptoms. With these deaths, the total number of fatalities at SBMCH has increased to three.

As of this report, a total of 12 patients suspected of being infected with measles have died in Barishal division. Besides, since January 1, 1,080 patients have shown symptoms of measles in the division.
Of these, 827 patients have been admitted to various hospitals for treatment, and 52 of them have been diagnosed with confirmed measles.

According to the administrative branch of Barishal SBMC Hospital, among the latest two deceased children, one was five-month-old Imam, son of Panna Khan of Charamaddi Union in Bakerganj Upazila of Barishal.

Imam was admitted to the hospital with measles symptoms on April 6. Nine-month-old Abu Saleh, son of Abu Bakkar, a resident of Amtoli Upazila of Barguna.

was admitted to the hospital on April 7 with measles symptoms.
Currently, 91 measles patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital, of whom 30 have been admitted in the last 24 hours.

At the same time, 27 patients have recovered and returned home in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 310 suspected and confirmed measles patients have been admitted to this hospital.

On the other hand, Barishal Divisional Health Department Director Dr. Shyamal Krishna Mondal said that two children have died at SBMCH in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths due to suspected measles to 12.
In addition, 76 suspected measles patients have been admitted to various hospitals in the six districts of Barishal division, while 62 have been discharged.
