Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney has made her stance on politics clear.
The ‘White Lotus’ and ‘The Housemaid’ star has said she has no plans to publicly voice her opinion on political issues, no matter how much pressure there is to do so.
Sydney recently appeared on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine.
In an interview there, Sydney Sweeney said, “I’m an artist. I’m not here to talk about politics. It’s not a field I ever imagined myself in. It’s not the reason I became the person I am.”
The 28-year-old actress said that her full focus is on her work. She said, “I became an actress because I love telling stories.”
She also highlighted her values, adding, “I don’t believe in any kind of hatred. I believe we all need to love each other, create a space of respect and understanding.”
Sydney admits that his refusal to get involved in politics has actually led to more criticism. In her words, “I’ve always come here to make art, so this is not a discussion where I want to be at the forefront.
And I think that’s why people escalate it and want to use me as their own ‘weapon’. But someone else is imposing something on me-that’s not in my control.”
It is believed that he no longer wants to speak outside of work after the controversy surrounding an advertising campaign for the American Eagle brand last year.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Sydney also said that it’s not comfortable to have someone else’s beliefs or opinions imposed on her.
“When people tell you what you believe or what you think-especially when it doesn’t align with you-it’s very uncomfortable. It’s a strange experience for me. Because it’s not me. None of it is me,” she said.
The controversy, which he called ‘unexpected’ in an interview with People magazine last December, has forced him to rethink his relationship with social media.
“I’m online, I watch everything. But I’m slowly distancing myself. It’s gotten to the point where it’s no longer healthy for me to digest everything,” she said.
