BRAC Bank ranks among Forbes’ top 500 banks

BRAC Bank has become the only Bangladeshi bank to feature on Forbes’ World’s Top Performing Banks 2026 list, marking the first time a Bangladeshi bank has been recognised in the publication’s inaugural ranking.

The list, compiled in partnership with global data and business intelligence platform Statista, evaluated 500 banks from 89 countries, drawing on data from S&P Capital IQ, desk research, and submissions from banks, according to a statement from BRAC Bank.

Unlike Forbes’ earlier World’s Best Banks study, which relied on customer surveys, the new ranking assessed actual financial performance across four dimensions: profitability (30 percent), capital and funding resilience (25 percent), asset quality and efficiency (25 percent), and growth and earnings quality (20 percent).

Forbes grouped banks into six asset-size tiers, placing BRAC Bank in Tier 5, the lower mid-size category.

The private commercial lender’s net profit rose 57 percent year-on-year to Tk 1,423 crore for the six months ended June 30, 2026.

The bank maintained a non-performing loan ratio of 2.03 percent in the first half of 2026 while holding Tk 10,340 crore in regulatory capital, the highest among Bangladeshi banks.

Following this strong first-half trajectory, customer deposits reached Tk 1 lakh crore by the end of August 2026.
