HSBC, BGMEA connect global RMG buyers

HSBC Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), in collaboration with the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Hong Kong, jointly organised the Bangladesh Apparel Roadshow 2026 in Hong Kong to showcase the country’s evolving garment manufacturing capabilities and explore new sourcing opportunities.

The event, held at Island Shangri-La on October 28, brought together more than 130 participants, including international buyers, sourcing professionals, apparel manufacturers and industry stakeholders, said a press release on Monday.

The roadshow highlighted Bangladesh’s position as one of the world’s leading apparel-exporting countries, with particular emphasis on product diversification, market expansion, innovation, sustainable manufacturing and the changing requirements of global buyers.

The programme opened with remarks by Oliver T Jones, Head of Global Network Banking at HSBC, followed by speeches from BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and Bangladesh Consul General in Hong Kong Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur.

Dr Rubana Huq, Chairperson of Mohammadi Group, delivered the keynote presentation titled “Why Bangladesh: Legacy and the Future”, highlighting the development of the country’s apparel industry and its future prospects.

Two panel discussions, titled “Why Should You Source from Bangladesh?” and “Through Buyers’ Lens”, brought together representatives of HSBC, BGMEA, international sourcing organisations and industry experts.

The discussions focused on Bangladesh’s manufacturing strengths, global buyers’ expectations, sustainability, emerging sourcing trends and opportunities for stronger collaboration between local manufacturers and international brands.

The event also featured “The Bangladesh Collective”, an apparel showcase highlighting the country’s product diversity, innovation and technical manufacturing capabilities.

A networking session followed, providing opportunities for buyers and industry representatives to establish business connections.

Addressing the event, Bangladesh Consul General in Hong Kong Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur said Bangladesh offered global investors a compelling proposition through its manufacturing scale, competitiveness, leadership in sustainable manufacturing and strategic trade access.

He said the country’s garment industry had consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt, innovate and overcome challenges.

HSBC Bangladesh Chief Executive Officer Md Mahbubur Rahman said the country’s apparel sector had moved beyond competing solely on production volume.

He said innovation, sustainability, product diversification and resilience would shape the future of Bangladesh’s apparel industry and strengthen its position in global manufacturing.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said Bangladesh’s manufacturing capabilities could now be seen and verified by international buyers.

He invited global brands to establish long-term partnerships with the country’s apparel industry, which is expanding in terms of value, product diversity and sustainability.

The roadshow reflects HSBC’s continued efforts to connect Bangladeshi businesses with international markets through its global network, trade expertise and longstanding relationships across the apparel value chain.

HSBC and BGMEA expect the initiative to promote greater international engagement, diversify sourcing opportunities and support the long-term growth of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
