Girlfriend Disha remanded for four days
River police have arrested Jerika Tasnim Disha (19), girlfriend of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Sauri, over his death. She was arrested on Saturday from a house in the Mirpur-14 area. Inspector Firoz Ahmed of Tongi River Police Outpost confirmed this. He said the young woman, named Disha, was arrested in a raid on Saturday night and is being questioned.
According to sources, Disha had been in hiding since her name appeared in the media. Before the body was recovered, she had been renting a flat directly opposite Tahsif Sauri’s home.
After the incident she kept moving between different parts of the capital. On Saturday night she went to her aunt’s house and told someone that she was safe. Police then traced her using technology and arrested her that night.
A court has granted a four-day remand for Jerika Tasnim Disha, the young woman who was with former Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Sauri. Judge Md Ripon Hossain of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court issued the order on Sunday.
Meanwhile, police say they have found preliminary evidence linking Tahsif’s friend, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep, to the death of the former Air Force officer, K M Tahsif Sauri. Abdullah Al Mamun, Superintendent of Police for the River Police Dhaka Region, told the media: “We have found some preliminary evidence of Deep’s involvement in Tahsif Sauri’s death.
He will be questioned in more detail during remand. In the interests of the investigation, I cannot disclose anything more at this stage.”
The investigating officer, Inspector Firoz Uddin of Tongi River Police Outpost, gave these details in the remand application submitted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Court on Sunday.
The application set out six grounds for questioning Disha and sought a seven-day remand.
Police said that, with the help of technology and a review of CCTV footage from various places in Uttara, Disha was found to have gone to Nest Bar and Restaurant in Uttara with Tahsif on the night of 27 October.
That evening they visited CP Five Star Snacks several times. Disha was also seen with Tahsif at a motorcycle garage.
The application also states that Disha travelled around with Tahsif on a motorcycle. Police claim that a review of Tahsif’s mobile phone call list shows he spoke to Disha several times.
CCTV footage shows that on the night before the body was recovered, Tahsif was with his girlfriend Disha as well as Deep.
Footage from Nest Restaurant and Bar, next to Sonargaon Janapath, shows Disha was at the bar with Tahsif from 10.17pm to 11.50pm. The two arrived at the bar on the same motorcycle and left on it.
An investigation official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that CCTV footage collected from various locations shows Tahsif was with Deep from 6.30pm until 1.30am on the day of the incident.
During this time Deep took Tahsif to the Mazar slum area in Tongi, but Deep returned from there alone.
The official said the matter had raised many questions. Information from the initial questioning also points to Deep’s involvement.
The police forwarding application presented to the court on Saturday also mentions his involvement.
The application, signed by Inspector Firoz Uddin of Tongi River Police Outpost, states that preliminary investigation has produced information and evidence linking the suspect, Deep, to the killing. It argues that he must be kept in custody until the investigation is complete, and that releasing him could obstruct the inquiry.
Tahsif’s father, K M Enayetul Karim, filed the case over his son’s death. His friend Deep has been shown as arrested in that case and is currently in River Police custody on a four-day remand. Tongi River Police are also questioning Disha.
On Saturday, at his home in Uttara, Tahsif’s father told journalists that Deep often visited their house and was in regular contact with Tahsif.
He said: “During the PBI investigation, Deep admitted that they had gone to Tongi. But earlier he had told me that he dropped Tahsif off at our house compound. I do not know who was involved or who did what, but his statement raises questions.”
Enayetul Karim added that Tahsif was sociable and always ready to help others. “We cannot accept such a thing happening to a boy like this,” he said, and he hoped the real truth would come out.
