14-month-old girl dies falling from Banani slum staircase

A 14-month-old girl died after falling from a second-floor staircase at Sattola slum in the capital’s Banani area on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Khadija Akter, daughter of Dulal Hossain, who works as a cleaner.

According to Dulal, Khadija’s mother was busy with household work in the morning when the child accidentally fell from the second-floor staircase.

She was rescued in critical condition and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

As her condition deteriorated, Khadija was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the afternoon. Doctors there declared her dead.

Dulal said he is from Shariakandi upazila of Bogura and currently lives with his family at Sattola slum in Banani.

Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue.

He said the concerned police station had also been informed about the incident.
