RMG exports to UK rebound in August after sluggish July
Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) exports to the United Kingdom staged a strong recovery in August, rebounding from a mild contraction in July and helping maintain overall export momentum in key European markets, according to the latest Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data.
Earnings from apparel shipments to the UK rose 10.53 percent year-on-year in August, successfully offsetting the 2.44 percent decline recorded in July.
The robust August performance pushed cumulative RMG export earnings from the UK market up by 3.74 percent to US$ 915.63 million during the first two months (July-August) of the current 2026-27 fiscal year, compared with $882.62 million in the corresponding period of FY2025-26.
An analysis by research initiative Bangladesh Apparel Voice (BAV) indicates that the two-month export total of $915.63 million already accounts for 20.86 percent of Bangladesh’s total RMG export receipts from the UK in the full FY2025-26, which stood at $4,388.55 million.
During the July-August period of FY27, the monthly average export earnings from the UK market reached $457.82 million running roughly 25 per cent ahead of the FY26 baseline monthly average of $365.71 million.
Trade analysts noted that this impressive monthly average was driven almost entirely by August’s double-digit rebound.
The UK remains one of Bangladesh’s primary traditional export destinations for knitwear and woven garments. Industry insiders and trade leaders view the August rebound as a reassuring signal of steady buyer confidence and sustained demand in major European retail markets at the beginning of the fiscal year.
Continued growth in UK-bound shipments is expected to provide a crucial cushion for the country’s overall RMG export performance in the coming months.
