DMP orders probe into police role

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has ordered an investigation into whether police negligence contributed to the attack and subsequent demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1.

The DMP commissioner ordered the investigation after inspecting the site on Saturday. He said a three-member committee would examine whether police responded promptly to the attack despite a police station being located nearby.

“Action will be taken against any officer found negligent,” Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said.
Police have already arrested four people in connection with the incident.

The arrestees are Sohel, 22, Jewel, 23, Jihad Hasan, 21, and Rabib, 20. Police said they were arrested from different parts of Mirpur and admitted their involvement during initial questioning.

Raids are continuing to arrest other people allegedly involved in the incident, police said. More than 200 masked men allegedly attacked the Radda MCH-FP Centre around midnight on Thursday.

According to the account provided by the authorities, the attackers held two security guards hostage before looting medical equipment, medicines, vaccines, cash and other valuables. They later allegedly used heavy machinery to demolish the facility.

The Radda MCH-FP Centre has estimated the damage at more than Tk1 crore.
A case has been filed with Shah Ali Police Station over the incident.
