Dhaka-13 launches crackdown on illegal battery rickshaws, charging points

Authorities have launched a campaign against the illegal operation of battery-run autorickshaws and unauthorised battery-charging establishments in Dhaka-13, following complaints from local residents about traffic congestion and the unrestricted movement of such vehicles.

The campaign was launched on Monday on the instructions of State Minister for Primary and Mass Education and Dhaka-13 MP Bobby Hajjaj, according to a press release issued by the ministry.

Residents raised concerns about traffic congestion and the unrestricted movement of battery-run autorickshaws at a town hall meeting in the constituency on Saturday.

Taking the complaints seriously, Bobby Hajjaj instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate action.

Authorities began the campaign on Sunday, taking action against a number of battery-run autorickshaws and removing equipment and electrical connections used for unauthorised battery charging.

The initiative is aimed at restoring order on roads and ensuring smoother movement for residents in the area, the press release said.

Bobby Hajjaj said the town hall meeting was not merely a platform for hearing complaints but also an effective mechanism for identifying citizens’ problems and providing quick solutions.

“We have immediately instructed the relevant authorities to address the issues raised by residents,” he said.

He said necessary measures would continue to ensure normal and smooth movement in Dhaka-13.

The state minister also said coordination between the administration and relevant organisations would be strengthened to address residents’ concerns.

“Work is underway to make Dhaka-13 a more liveable and people-friendly area by giving importance to citizens’ complaints and suggestions,” he said.

Local residents expressed satisfaction with the swift action taken after they raised their concerns at the town hall meeting, according to the press release.
