5 films from Bangladesh in running for Oscars

The Academy Awards, or Oscars, are the most prestigious awards in film. Five films from the country are in the running to represent Bangladesh in the ‘International Feature Film’ category at the 99th edition of the awards.

According to the Oscar Bangladesh Committee, the five films submitted for scrutiny this time are ‘Manusher Bagan,’ directed by Nurul Alam Atique, ‘Roid’ by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, ‘Domm’ by Redoan Rony, ‘Delupi’ by Mohammad Touqir Islam, and ‘The University of Chankharpul’ directed by Monirul Haque Akash.

Earlier, on August 20, the Bangladesh Oscar Committee officially called for submissions of films in this category.

The deadline for submitting films was September 16. A seven-member jury board has already been formed for the final evaluation of the submitted films.

After careful analysis by the judges, only one of these five films will be finalised and sent to the Oscars stage by Bangladesh.

After the selection process, the name of the film to be submitted to the Oscars by Bangladesh will be officially announced on September 27.

If everything goes well, the name of the film representing Bangladesh at the 99th Oscars will be officially announced on September 27.
