JU VC rejects violence

Calls for campus harmony

Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan on Friday inaugurated road development works on the campus and laid the foundation stone of ‘Shaheed Habibur Rahman Kabir Sarani’ under the university’s Further Development Project.

The inauguration and foundation stone-laying ceremony was held on the campus at around 11:30am.
At the programme, the vice-chancellor also inaugurated a passenger shelter named after late Chhatra Dal leader Shaheedul Islam Tushar.

Speaking at the event, Prof Kamrul said the university did not support violence, aggression or any unjust attack or loss of life under any circumstances.

“We do not support violence, aggression or any unjust attack on or loss of life under any circumstances,” he said.

He said respect for diversity and differences of opinion, along with harmony and integrity through national unity and inclusive politics, should remain a fundamental commitment.

“Respect for diversity and differences of opinion and establishing harmony and integrity through national unity and inclusive politics should be our fundamental commitment,” he said.

The vice-chancellor also said personal principles, ethics, honesty and human values should always take priority over any position or status.

JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Prof Dr Md Sohel Rana, JU Senate member and former president of Chhatra Front Abul Kalam Azad, former JUCSU VP Ashraf Uddin Khan, JUCSU VP Abdur Rashid Zitu and JU unit Chhatra Dal Convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar and Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik, among others, spoke at the programme.

Teachers, students, officers, employees and leaders of different student organisations were present.
Project Director of the Further Development Project Md Nasir Uddin moderated the programme.
