Pedestrian killed, bus driver held in Jatrabari

A pedestrian was killed after a bus ran him over in Jatrabari’s Kutubkhali area on August 30, with traffic police later detaining the driver and seizing the vehicle after a chase. The driver, Md Saiful, 26, was detained in Shonir Akhra after allegedly attempting to flee with the bus following the crash.

Md Akhtar Hossain, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Media and Public Relations Division, said traffic police blocked the road and chased the bus after it hit the pedestrian.

Police caught Saiful and seized the bus in Shonir Akhra, he said. Jatrabari traffic police subsequently handed Saiful and the bus over to Jatrabari police for further legal action. The identity of the deceased could not be established immediately, police said. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
