‘Previous govt took no initiative regarding Teesta’

Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie remarked that no initiatives regarding the Teesta were taken during the tenure of the previous government. He stated, “Many actions contrary to the national interest were taken over the past 17 years. No effective or timely initiatives were undertaken regarding the Teesta.”

He made these remarks on Monday (August 17) at a seminar on the sustainable management of the Teesta River, held at the Academic Council Hall of BUET.

The Water Resources Minister further stated, “The government will take steps to implement the Teesta agreement as soon as possible. Foreign technology will be utilized, if necessary, to resolve the long-standing crisis faced by the people living along the banks of the Teesta.”

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu and State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Azim stated that prompt, sustainable measures must be taken to alleviate the long-standing hardships and suffering of the people living along the Teesta River.
