BGB seized smuggled goods worth Tk 3.07cr

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth around Tk 3.07 crore in separate drives along the Shibganj and Bholahat borders in Chapainawabganj.
The seizures included 708 pieces of various truck parts and five Benarasi sarees hidden inside a stone-laden Indian truck, and 135 Indian mobile phones of different models.
59 BGB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury confirmed the seizures and said legal action had been taken regarding the recovered smuggled goods.
According to a BGB press release, members of Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB) conducted a drive in the Muslimpur area of Shahabazpur Union in Shibganj Upazila on Wednesday night and seized a stone-laden Indian truck.
A subsequent search of the truck led to the recovery of 708 pieces of various Indian truck parts and five Benarasi sarees that had been specially concealed inside the vehicle. The seized goods were valued at Tk 2.58 crore.
In a separate drive on Thursday morning, BGB members from Kharkpur Border Outpost conducted an operation in the Alimor area of Bholahat Upazila and recovered 135 smuggled Indian mobile phones of various models.
An e-rickshaw allegedly used to transport the smuggled goods was also seized. However, its driver fled after sensing the presence of the BGB members. The seized goods in the operation were valued at Tk 49.15 lakh.
The total seizure value of the smuggled goods recovered in the two operations was approximately Tk 3.07 crore.
