KAU stresses OBE curriculum to tackle climate change

Speakers at a training programme at Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) have stressed the need for a timely, practical and internationally standardised curriculum to prepare students to face future challenges, including climate change.

The two-day training programme on “Design and Implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum” was organised by the university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at its auditorium recently.

Professor Dr Masuma Habib, a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), attended the inaugural session as the chief guest. She was welcomed with flowers and presented with a crest by the university authorities.

KAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Asaduzzaman Sarker attended the programme as the chief patron, while Treasurer Professor Dr Shamim Ahmed Kamal Uddin Khan was present as a special guest. Dr MA Hannan, acting director of the IQAC, chaired the session, which was moderated by Md Asadur Rahman, acting additional director of the IQAC.

In her speech, Professor Dr Masuma Habib said there was no alternative to updating curricula to improve the quality of higher education.

“Higher education institutions need to develop curricula in line with those of reputed universities around the world,” she said.

She also stressed the importance of developing students’ soft skills, ethical values, leadership qualities and practical competencies alongside academic knowledge.

“Students cannot be confined to academic knowledge alone. The OBE approach can play an important role in ensuring the integrated development of their knowledge, skills and values,” she said.
