‘Teen gangs’ not active in M’pur: RAB

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has claimed that no active “teen gangs” are currently operating in the capital’s Mohammadpur area, saying recent operations have dismantled such groups.

RAB-2 Commander Additional DIG Noymul Hasan made the remarks at a press conference at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar on Friday afternoon.

He said RAB is currently conducting special operations aimed at removing alleged gang leaders and “godfathers” from Mohammadpur.

“We are arresting the godfathers. We are not focusing too much on lower-level members or smaller groups,” Hasan said, adding that the arrests of key figures have made Mohammadpur considerably more stable than before.

He expressed hope that the area would become safer and more suitable for residents in the near future.
Hasan also said the perception of Mohammadpur as a major hub of gangs and criminal activity was being challenged through ongoing law-enforcement operations.

According to him, RAB has already achieved significant progress and expects to eliminate gang-related and terrorist activities from the area in the future.

He added that similar efforts are being carried out across Dhaka to make the city safer and reduce criminal activity.

Responding to a question about arrests linked to the killing of Alex Emon, Hasan said RAB views arrests as an important part of supporting investigations.

He explained that investigators can gather more details about the motive and people involved after suspects are questioned on remand or give statements before a court under Section 164.

However, he noted that RAB is not directly investigating the murder case and said police would be better placed to provide further details.
