Nursing student found dead in hostel

Police on Friday recovered the hanging body of a 19-year-old nursing student from her hostel room in Dhaka’s Kalabagan area, with the exact cause of death to be determined after an autopsy.

The deceased was identified as Pinki Biswas, daughter of Prafulla Biswas of Jambari village in Wazirpur upazila of Barishal.

Sub-Inspector Liza Akhter of Kalabagan Police Station said officers recovered the body at around 8:30am after breaking open the door of a room at a hostel on Crescent Road.

Police found Pinki hanging from a ceiling fan with a rope around her neck. Her body was later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Pinki was a first-year student at Anwer Khan Modern Nursing College and shared the hostel room with two fellow students, who were away on leave at the time of the incident.

The police officer said the actual cause of death would be confirmed after the autopsy report is received.
