Jafar new Managing Director of National Bank

Mohammad Abu Jafar has joined as the Managing Director of National Bank PLC on Sunday, September 20, 2026. He is a veteran banker with 36 years of professional experience in the banking industry.

Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in diverse capacities with extensive expertise in business development, Ready Made Garment (RMG) financing, offshore banking, corporate banking, treasury business and operations, credit management, foreign trade financing, international business and branch banking.

Prior to joining National Bank PLC, Abu Jafar served at The Premier Bank PLC as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer.

Before that, he served at Dhaka Bank PLC as Additional Managing Director & Chief Business Officer (CBO). He also served as Managing Director of Dhaka Bank Investment Limited since 2021.

Abu Jafar began his banking career at Uttara Bank PLC as a Probationary Officer in 1990. He subsequently served at National Bank PLC and Dhaka Bank PLC.

During his tenure at Uttara Bank and National Bank, he served as Manager of Authorized Dealer (AD) Branches for more than 15 years, gaining extensive experience in foreign exchange, international trade and branch banking operations.

He completed his Graduation and Post-Graduation in Economics from the University of Chittagong. He also obtained the Diplomaed Associate of the Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh (DAIBB). Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous banking programmes, professional training, seminars and symposiums both at home and abroad.
