David Emon sent to jail in four cases

A Chattogram court on Thursday sent alleged top criminal Mobarak Hossain, known as David Emon, to jail after showing him arrested in four cases.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Sayma Afrin Hima passed the order following a hearing, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury. Three of the cases were filed with Fatikchhari Police Station, including two arms cases and the Jamal murder case. The fourth is a murder case filed with Bayezid Bostami Police Station.

Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Md Tarek Aziz said police could not seek remand due to time constraints and would submit remand petitions in the three district police cases on Sunday.

Police said Emon was shown arrested in the Jamal murder case after investigators found evidence of his alleged involvement from a statement recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md Masud Alam said Emon faces 13 cases under the district police, including seven murder cases. He is also accused in 21 cases filed with different police stations in Chattogram city.

Investigators plan to question him about the sources of his weapons, funding and alleged criminal network. Emon was arrested on Wednesday from the Jhikargachha border area in Jashore and later taken to Chattogram.
