Two factories fined for air pollution in N’ganj

Two factories in Sastapur of Fatullah, Narayanganj Sadar, were fined a total of Tk 2.5 lakh for causing air pollution during a mobile court operation.

The fined establishments are Messrs Rahmat Textile Mills and SK Dyeing and Finishing Mills, both located in Sastapur. Rahmat Textile Mills was fined Tk 2 lakh, while SK Dyeing and Finishing Mills was fined Tk 50,000.

The drive was conducted on Wednesday (September 16) under the direction of Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Raihan Kabir. The operation was led by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate S.M. Foyez Uddin and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sadia Akter.

Officials from RAB-11 and the Narayanganj district office of the Department of Environment also took part in the operation. Md Hujjatul Islam, an inspector of the Department of Environment, filed the cases.
According to the Department of Environment, the two establishments were fined under Section 15(2) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995, for violating Rule 8(a) of the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022.

Authorities said such drives against air-polluting factories and projects in Narayanganj will continue.
