



Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 arrested an alleged robbery gang leader who had been on the run in connection with a high-profile robbery case filed in Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali.
The suspect, Bacchu Sardar, 35, was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by RAB-8’s CPC-1 Patuakhali Camp and the CPCSC Barishal unit in the Kalijira Bazar area under Kotwali Model Police Station in Barishal city late Tuesday night.
According to RAB, the operation was carried out based on confidential intelligence. Bacchu Sardar, son of Alam Sardar, is a resident of Kalaiya in Bauphal Upazila.
RAB and Bauphal Police said that on the night of Aug. 24, 2025, a group of six to seven armed men allegedly entered the house of Azahar Jomaddar in Bauphal and held family members hostage at gunpoint and with locally made weapons. The group allegedly looted Tk 500,000 in cash, gold ornaments worth Tk 4.339 million, and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, the victim filed a robbery case with Bauphal Police Station, naming Bacchu Sardar as an accused.
RAB said Bacchu Sardar had remained in hiding since the incident, frequently changing locations to evade arrest. After prolonged intelligence surveillance and the use of information technology, law enforcement officials tracked down his whereabouts and arrested him during the operation.
RAB-8 Media Officer Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Kamruzzaman (PPM-Service) confirmed the arrest, saying the accused had been handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station in Barishal for further legal proceedings.
