RARS organises training on insecticides free crop production

A -day long refresher training on mass rearing technique of Trichogramma was held at the Regional Agricultural Research Station(RARS) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in Rangpur on Tuesday to strengthen environment-friendly pest management in agriculture and ensure safe food production through the use of beneficial insects.

The training was jointly organized by the Entomology Department of the BARI, Gazipur and the Center for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI).

The program was attended by Dr. Dirk Babandreier a scientist from CABI Switzerland as the chief guest Dr. Abu Tayeb Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, Principal Scientific Officer.

, Entomology Department of BARI and Maisue Morris, Junior Scientist from CABI were present as special guests.

The training program was chaire by Dr. Md. Kamrul Islam, Chief Scientific Officer, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Burirhat, Rangpr. Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid, Senior Scientific Officer also delivered the speech.

The training discussed in detail about the mass reproduction, quality control, conservation, field release of Trichogramma parasitic wasp and its effective use in Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

The speakers emphasized the important role of Trichogramma in eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural production by reducing the use of chemical pesticides.

The speakers expressed the hope that such training will make a significant contribution to the expansion of biological pest management and safe agricultural production in different regions of the country.

Officers, researchers, technicians and representatives of the Research organization and Department of Agricultural Extension participated in the training.

The participants gained practical knowledge about various aspects of Trichogramma production and management through hands-on training.##
