President visits Sylhet today

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will visit Sylhet on Tuesday, September 15, for nine hours, marking his first visit to the city since taking office as the country’s 23rd President.

During the visit, he will visit the shrines of two saints in Sylhet and attend a civic reception organised by Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) in his honour.

Preparations for the President’s visit are almost complete across the city, with strict security measures put in place.

According to the schedule from the President’s Office, the President will arrive at Sylhet Osmani International Airport from Dhaka by air at 11:15am on Tuesday. He will then go directly to Sylhet Circuit House, where he will rest for some time.

He will visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) at 12:30pm and the shrine of Hazrat Shahparan (RA) at 1:25pm.

After returning to Sylhet Circuit House for lunch and rest, the President will attend the civic reception at the Nagar Bhaban premises at 3:30pm.

Following the reception, he will leave Sylhet for Dhaka by air at 8pm.

Archways and lighting have been installed and cleaning work completed on various city roads ahead of the visit. Security has also been strengthened at the venues, along the travel routes and in important areas.

The district administration and police administration have held separate coordination meetings and completed overall preparations. Members of the Special Security Force, President Guard Regiment, law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies will be deployed for the President’s security.

SCC Administrator Abdul Kayyum Chowdhury said seating arrangements had been made for around 1,200 invited guests at the reception venue. Representatives from different professions will speak at the event, followed by a cultural programme after the President’s speech.

He said leaders of all political parties registered with the Election Commission had been invited, but the entire programme would remain apolitical.
