BNP leader Motahar new Chairman of MDA

Motahar Hossain Talukdar, a senior BNP leader, has been appointed as the first Chairman of the Mymensingh Development Authority (MDA).

The appointment was announced through a gazette notification issued by the Contract and Foreign Appointment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (June 11).

Motahar Hossain Talukdar is the Senior Joint Convener of the Mymensingh North District BNP. He also contested the last parliamentary election from the Mymensingh-2 (Phulpur-Tarakanda) constituency with the BNP’s “Dhaner Shish” symbol but was defeated.

According to the notification, under Section 8(1) of the Mymensingh Development Authority Act, 2026, he has been appointed on the condition that he resigns from any other profession, business, or employment in any government, semi-government, private institution, or organization.

He will serve as Chairman of the Mymensingh Development Authority, carrying the status of a Grade-2 official, for a period of one year from the date of joining. The appointment order, signed by Deputy Secretary Md Golam Rabbani of the Ministry of Public Administration, was issued under the authority of the President.

Earlier, on January 20 this year, President Md Shahabuddin promulgated the Mymensingh Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, paving the way for the authority to begin its activities aimed at planned urban development, infrastructure expansion, improved city management, and sustainable urbanization in Mymensingh.

Reacting to his appointment, newly appointed Chairman Motahar Hossain Talukdar expressed gratitude to the authorities. He said he would work with people from all walks of life to build Mymensingh into a modern, well-planned, and livable city. He also sought cooperation from all stakeholders to fulfill the expectations of the people regarding urban development.
