DSCC starts drive in 75-ward to curb dengue

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Saturday launched a special cleaning and mosquito-control drive simultaneously across all 75 wards as part of a three-month campaign to prevent dengue.

The weekly drive will continue every Saturday for the next three months under the supervision of DSCC’s regional executive officers.

The campaign focuses on finding and destroying Aedes mosquito breeding sites, removing stagnant water and waste, intensifying mosquito-control measures and raising public awareness about dengue prevention.

Teams carried out operations across residential areas, roads, alleys, drains, canals, construction sites, parking areas, rooftops and abandoned structures in DSCC’s 10 regions.

During inspections, stagnant water was removed and Aedes larvae were destroyed where found. Items capable of holding water, including plastic containers, tyres, coconut shells and flower pots, were also removed.

The corporation conducted larviciding and adulticiding in designated areas, while cleaning workers cleared accumulated waste from roads, footpaths and surrounding areas.

Awareness rallies were held simultaneously in all 75 wards to encourage residents to participate in dengue prevention. DSCC officials and employees, mosquito-control workers, cleaning staff and local residents joined the rallies.

Leaflets containing information on dengue prevention were distributed among residents during the activities. The campaign also urged people to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean and prevent stagnant water from accumulating.

DSCC officials stressed the importance of destroying Aedes breeding sites alongside mosquito-control operations and called for greater public participation in dengue prevention.

The initiative is part of a three-month dengue prevention and special cleanliness programme being implemented nationwide. DSCC said the special cleaning and mosquito-control activities would continue every Saturday across its 75 wards.

The corporation also urged residents to cooperate with the campaign by maintaining cleanliness around their homes and workplaces and removing objects that can collect water.
