State Minister for Shipping Rajib Ahsan has issued a stern warning to the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Mehendiganj Upazila over alleged negligence in duty and widespread irregularities at the local health complex.
The minister on Sunday ordered an emergency review meeting to be held on Tuesday (June 16) to address administrative mismanagement and improve healthcare services at the Mehendiganj Upazila Health Complex.
Speaking over the phone with Dr. Emranur Rahman, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Rajib Ahsan said, “Either you work or you leave. There is no point in embarrassing us.
I have visited the hospital seven to eight times in the past three months, but I have not found you at work even once. If you do not want to perform your duties, then leave.”
The warning came a day after the minister paid a surprise visit to the Mehendiganj Upazila Health Complex on Saturday (June 13).
During the inspection, he found the hospital’s main gate locked and discovered that several doctors scheduled to be on duty were absent.
He also reviewed the attendance register and reportedly found various irregularities and inconsistencies in attendance records and signatures.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the situation, the minister said negligence in healthcare services would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
