Pabna missing child found dead in sack
The dismembered body of a 10-year-old girl, Mosa Kamrunnahar Koli, who had been missing for seven days, was recovered from a ditch beside her home in Pabna Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.
Police recovered the body inside a sack and sent it to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tariqul Islam confirmed the recovery.
Koli was the daughter of Kamal Pramanik of Dogachhi Kuloniya village in Pabna Sadar. Her disappearance had sparked concern in the area, with local residents gathering at the scene after news of the recovery spread.
According to family members, Koli went to Sreepur Bazar with her father on the evening of September 9. After returning home, she handed a shopping bag to her mother and went outside near the house. When she did not return, her family began searching for her.
Later, her sandals were found around 200 yards from the house. Family members searched relatives’ homes and other nearby areas but could not find her. Her father subsequently filed a general diary (GD) at Pabna Sadar Police Station.
The family also circulated appeals seeking information about Koli’s whereabouts. On Tuesday, September 15, her relatives and classmates organised a protest march and human chain in Pabna town demanding her recovery.
The following morning, local residents spotted a sack containing human remains in a ditch beside the girl’s home and informed police. Police recovered the remains, which family members later identified as Koli’s.
Koli’s family has alleged that someone from the locality may have been involved in her death. They also claimed that they had provided police with information and possible leads after her disappearance but that these were not adequately investigated. However, these allegations have not been independently established.
Koli’s father, Kamal Pramanik, alleged that he repeatedly approached the authorities during the five days following his daughter’s disappearance but received little assistance. He also claimed that police did not conduct adequate field searches. He said he wanted a proper investigation and the arrest and punishment of those responsible.
Pabna Superintendent of Police Md Abu Ashraf said police had taken action after receiving information about the disappearance. He said a kidnapping case was registered after he spoke with the family on Tuesday.
OC Tariqul Islam said police were investigating the circumstances surrounding Koli’s death and identifying those responsible. He said investigators hoped to uncover the circumstances of the incident soon.
The remains have been sent to Pabna General Hospital for autopsy. Further details are expected after the autopsy and police investigation.
