Shafiq Tuhin’s song on Imtiaz Mahmud’s poem against Israeli aggression in Gaza

Imtiaz Mahmud wrote a poem against the Israeli aggression in Gaza, Palestine. The poem, titled ‘Footnote’, has also gained a lot of readership.

The line ‘Even if someone cries, I write a footnote/ You flower, you become a bomb when you pour oil’ went viral on social media.

This time, singer and composer Shafiq Tuhin has turned that poem into a song.

The song was released on his YouTube channel on Monday. Tuhin himself has not only composed the tune for the song, but also sung it. The video of the song has been animated by Mir Hisham.

About the song, Shafiq Tuhin said, “Imtiaz Mahmud is one of the most popular poets of both Bengals in contemporary Bengali literature.

This time, I did an observational work on his beloved poem ‘Footnote’. Working on this poem written in a political context was very challenging.

It is completely outside the genre of songs I usually sing. I leave the burden of judgment to the audience.”
