‘Women not safe even in schools-colleges’

LDP Chairman Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram has said that the Prime Minister must understand that the people of the country are unable to live normal lives. Women are not safe, and neither are schools and colleges.

He mentioned around 74 per cent female students in Bangladesh face violence and harassment at educational institutions, reveals a study conducted by Plan International, a non-government development organisation.

“I would request Tarique Rahman – you are surrounded on all sides by various people. First learn about them, first set your own house in order, then think about the outside.”

The government is running on a culture of ‘yes sir.’ The Prime Minister must say – I am the Prime Minister, I will speak, I have no need for servants.

He made these remarks while addressing a grand rally organized by the 11-party alliance at the historic Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram city on Saturday.

Colonel Oli Ahmed said, “There are rats in our house – those who have worked against our country.” He added that if necessary, a movement against this government would begin right from here, under the leadership of Shafiqur Rahman. Just as the liberation war movement against Pakistan had begun from Chattogram.

He further alleged that while the 11-party alliance had been extended cooperation, it was necessary to take a firm stand against forces working against the national interest.

He said the people of this country earned independence with their blood. Those conspiring against Bangladesh must be resisted. It is not possible to survive surrounded by enemies on all sides.

At the very least, a path of friendly relations must be built with the opposition, and necessary reforms must be implemented. Collaborators are being identified in the secretariat – so why are collaborators at the police station and upazila level not being identified?

He alleged that a third of those given nominations in the election are uneducated and plunderers. They are enemies of the country and its people. The fact that there is no money in the banks is the result of looting the people’s money.
