13 city corporations get Tk20cr for healthcare

The government has allocated a total of Tk20 crore as recurring grants to 13 city corporations across the country to ensure primary healthcare services for urban residents in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued an order in this regard on September 13 through its Urban Development-1 wing, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

The allocation has been made under the recurring grant category from the operating budget of the Local Government Division as assistance for primary healthcare in the city corporations.

The allocation also represents 25 percent of the amount committed by the Local Government Division for urban primary healthcare services.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) received the highest allocation of Tk4.50 crore, while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) received Tk4.39 crore.

Gazipur City Corporation received Tk2.28 crore, Chattogram City Corporation Tk2 crore, Bogura City Corporation Tk1.75 crore and Rajshahi City Corporation Tk1.02 crore.

Among the remaining city corporations, Narayanganj received Tk73 lakh, Barishal Tk72 lakh, Mymensingh Tk65 lakh, Khulna Tk60 lakh, Cumilla Tk52 lakh, Rangpur Tk52 lakh and Sylhet Tk32 lakh.

The order instructed the authorities to strictly follow prevailing financial rules and regulations while spending the allocated funds.

For subsequent releases of funds, expenditure statements for the current fiscal year must be submitted in coordination with the offices of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) and the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer (CAO).

The order also stated that the authority responsible for drawing the relevant bills would be held accountable for any irregularities in the use of the allocated funds in future.
