BD keen to host U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers

After achieving supremacy in South Asia, Bangladesh is now on the path to organizing a large-scale football tournament.

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) wants to host the 2027 U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers at home, along with the men’s senior SAFF Championship.

The BFF wants to showcase the country’s football, buoyed by recent successes, to an international level.

They now moving forward with this mega plan with the aim of doing well at the Asian level by utilizing the advantages of its home field.

The BFF Development Committee meeting was held on Sunday.

After the meeting, the federation’s Vice-President and Development Committee Chairman Md Nasser Shahrear Zahedee informed the reporters about the Asian Cup qualifiers.

‘The BFF has sent a formal proposal to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to host the tournament.

The National Stadium and Bashundhara Kings Arena have been listed as venues. Currently, extensive renovation work is underway at both the grounds’, said Zahedi.

In addition to fixing the pitch at the National Stadium, the construction of a shed over the gallery at the Kings Arena, installation of new chairs and construction of an international-standard press box are now in the final stages.

The qualifiers will be held immediately after the conclusion of the World Cup in July this year.

The battle to qualify for the main stage of the 2027 Asian Cup will begin on August 25 and will continue until September 6.

Md Nasser Shahrear Zahedee has confirmed that if everything goes according to plan, the battle of Asia’s rising football stars will be seen on the field in Dhaka.

Bangladesh became the undefeated champion after defeating India in the recent U-20 SAFF held in Maldives.

BFF wants to use that title-winning confidence in the Asian Cup qualifiers as well.

Although the draw or group has not been decided yet, football related people believe that the red-green jersey holders will get an additional advantage if they play at home.
