Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay receives a floral welcome from LGRD Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital during a brief stopover on Friday.

Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay made a brief stopover in Dhaka on Friday while travelling to Germany, with Bangladesh seeking Bhutan’s support for revitalising the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Tshering Tobgay arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:55pm, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humaiun Kobir received him at the airport.

During their brief interaction, the two Bangladeshi ministers conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s greetings to the Bhutanese premier.

They also highlighted the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Bhutan, noting that Bhutan was the first country to recognise Bangladesh in 1971.

The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Moyeen Khan and Humaiun Kobir expressed Bangladesh’s interest in contributing to the development of Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), particularly through the provision of professional, skilled and semi-skilled human resources.

Recalling the vision of late President Ziaur Rahman for a prosperous South Asia, the Bangladeshi ministers sought Bhutan’s support for revitalising SAARC for the collective benefit of the region and its people.

Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present during the interaction.

After spending around an hour in the VVIP lounge at the airport, Tshering Tobgay departed for Germany on a chartered flight.
