Dulu urges efficient use of development funds

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Saturday said the government was bringing renewed dynamism to the rural economy through development activities and social safety-net programmes targeting marginalised communities.

He said programmes including KABIKHA (Food for Work), KABITA (Cash for Work), TR (Test Relief), GR (General Relief) and VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding), alongside canal excavation, were being implemented at the grassroots level to increase the flow of financial support to marginalised people.

The minister made the remarks while inaugurating Conference-26 of District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRROs) and Project Implementation Officers (PIOs) at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh as the chief guest.

Dulu said canal excavation was one of the present government’s electoral commitments and would bring significant changes to rural life.

According to him, the programme would facilitate cultivation during the dry season and improve water drainage during the monsoon.

It would also create opportunities for fish cultivation in canals and tree plantation along riverbanks.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would formally inaugurate the Model Canal programme on November 19, 2026.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain attended the event as the special guest.

The minister also urged officials to remain vigilant to ensure that no allocation under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) was returned and that public funds were not wasted.

Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Saiful Islam presided over the programme, while Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman delivered the welcome address.
DRROs and PIOs from across the country participated in the conference.
