BWDB asked to prioritise public interest in project planning

State Minister for Water Resources Md Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Ayny, MP, and State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad, MP, held a views-exchange meeting on Thursday with officials and employees of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) at Pani Bhaban at Green Road in Dhaka, according to a press release.

The meeting was chaired by Dr A K M Shahabuddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources. Senior officials of the ministry and BWDB were present, including Md Enayet Ullah, director general of BWDB, additional director generals and officials at different levels.

Representatives of Bangladesh Water Development Board Jatiyatabadi Sramik Karmachari Union (B-1901) were also present, including Manjurul Islam Manju, president, and Md Humayun Kabir, general secretary, among others.

The press release said Additional Chief Engineer Rabin Kumar Biswas gave a detailed presentation on BWDB’s activities, while Director General Md Enayet Ullah delivered the welcome address. Manjurul Islam Manju also spoke, conveying greetings to the newly appointed ministers.

In his speech, Farhad Hossain Azad said the prime minister has instructed that no tax-free vehicles or plots will be allocated in the names of members of parliament and ministers.

He said the message also applies to officials of the ministry and BWDB, and urged all concerned to run programmes in line with the prime minister’s directive for a corruption-free administration.

State Minister Md Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Ayny called for supporting the prime minister in building a corruption-free society and restoring the country’s image, and urged officials to plan and implement projects in the public interest rather than personal interest.

He also asked the ministry and BWDB to prepare plans and place them before the minister for consideration, and said he would remain committed to supporting implementation.
