Daughter feeds tied-up father bread and tea
A young girl pushed through a crowd at a marketplace in Barishal on Saturday morning, carrying bread and tea for her father, who had spent the night tied to a pole over an allegation of attempted theft.
The emotional scene unfolded at Bamrail Bazar in Uzirpur upazila, where locals had detained young man, Anik Sardar, late Friday night on suspicion of trying to steal from a shop.
After tying him to a pole at the market, locals kept him there overnight. When the girl learned that her father had been detained, she rushed to the market on Saturday morning. Finding him still tied to the pole and having gone without food through the night, she bought bread and tea from a nearby shop and fed him with her own hands.
The simple act of affection moved people at the scene. A local youth recorded the moment on a mobile phone, and the video later spread on social media, drawing an emotional response from viewers.
Local resident Mizanur Rahman said the girl immediately went to her father after seeing him tied to the pole.
“She brought bread and tea and fed him herself. The scene moved many people to tears,” he said.
Another resident, Abdur Rob, said the theft allegation should be dealt with through the proper legal process.
“Whatever the allegation, it should be resolved according to law. But the affection the daughter showed towards her father was truly touching,” he said.
According to local sources, Anik was released at around 9am on Saturday after locals took a written undertaking from him and handed him over to his guardian.
Uzirpur Police Station Inspector Md Faruk said police sent a mobile team to the market after receiving information that a man had been detained over a theft allegation.
He said locals later released the man after taking a written undertaking from him.
The incident, meanwhile, left behind an image that quickly travelled far beyond the marketplace-a young daughter standing beside her father, offering him bread and tea in the middle of a difficult and humiliating ordeal.
