Hema Malini’s journey to establish herself as a ‘Dream Girl’ in the silver screen world of Mumbai was not easy at all. Leaving the comfortable life of Chennai and coming to the city of Maya, she had to struggle hard
on one hand and fight with an invisible fear on the other.
In the early days of her career, the actress faced a strange and terrifying experience, which is still etched in her memory. In her autobiography ‘Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl’, she has given details about that thrilling experience.
Hema said that she was not yet married to megastar Dharmendra.
She was living in a small flat in Bandra, Mumbai. And there, some unusual things started happening to her regularly. Describing the experience, Hema said, “Every night I felt like someone was strangling me in the dark. It was an unbearable pain like suffocation. Not just once or twice, this happened to me day after day.”
The actress also said that at that time her mother also lived in the same room. In her words, “My mother used to sleep with me. She would see how scared I would spend the night.
The situation reached such a point that my mother would see me shaking with fear. We were mentally broken as the same incidents kept happening.”
Because of that mysterious and terrifying experience, Hema finally decided to leave that flat.
After that, she started looking for a safe haven for herself. Later, she bought a bungalow with a garden facing the sea in Juhu.
After marrying actor Dharmendra, the actress settled in that bungalow and spent most of her life there.
