Disaster risk mitigation building to establish in Dhaka
Staff Reporter :
To enhance the safety of private buildings in new constructions in the capital, the Development Control Branch of the Rajdhani Unnyan Katripakkha (RAJUK) has undertaken a technical assistance project with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The project, named “Design and Construction Quality Enhancement for Resilience of Private Buildings” (DCQR), will be implemented over a four-year period through a collaboration between RAJUK and JICA. As a result, disaster risk mitigation will be enhanced in newly constructed buildings in Dhaka Metropolitan.
According to RAJUK sources, the approval process for the construction of new private buildings will include structural and fire safety designs alongside architectural designs. These designs will be reviewed by RAJUK’s Development Control Branch.
Guidelines related to this are being prepared in collaboration with JICA and local consultants. Furthermore, the workflow and protocols for implementation are being established.
Through these training guidelines, the capacity of all authorized officers, assistant authorized officers, chief building inspectors, and building inspectors working in RAJUK’s Development Control Branch is being increased.
